How to properly maintain your candles to enjoy them for longer?
Share
Candles are true everyday companions: they create ambiance, soothe the mind, and transform an ordinary moment into a magical one. To keep your handmade candles beautiful, effective, and long-lasting , just follow a few simple steps.
Here are our top tips for maintaining your Lueur d'Essence candles and getting the most out of them, right down to the last drop of wax. ✨
Always shorten the wick before each use
Before lighting your candle, remember to trim the wick to approximately 5 mm .
A wick that is too long creates a flame that is too high, which burns the wax too quickly, causes black smoke and can damage the container.
✂️ Use a wick trimmer or small scissors, and remove any wick residue for a clean burn.
Allow the wax to melt evenly when first used
The first time you light your candle, let it burn long enough for the wax to melt to the edges of the container (approximately 2 to 3 hours depending on the size).
This helps prevent tunneling – that little crater that wastes wax and reduces the life of the candle.
💡 Tip: The more even the melted surface is from the start, the more evenly your candle will burn.
Avoid burning the candle for too long at one time.
Even if the atmosphere is soft and soothing, it is best to limit each session to 3-4 hours maximum .
Beyond that, the wax can overheat, which affects the quality of the fragrance and the burn.
Don't blow out your candle, smother it gently
To preserve the quality of the fragrance and avoid smoke, it is recommended to use a candle snuffer or to close the lid if your container has one.
Blowing creates unpleasant smoke and upsets the balance of the wick.
Store your candle in a cool, dry place
Wax can be sensitive to heat and light. To prevent it from warping or losing its scent, keep your candle away from sunlight and heat sources .
A well-maintained candle is a candle that will stay with you for a long time and spread all its magic.
At Lueur d'Essence , we put our heart and soul into offering you quality candles – it's up to you to cherish them in return 💛
